| National Weather Service: Winter Storm Warning |
Forecast from WITI
Summary:
From FOX 6 Chief Meteorologist Vince Condella
8:45 p.m., Monday, February 8, 2010
Winter Storm Warning from Midnight tonight through 6 a.m. Wednesday for all of southeast Wisconsin
Light snow beginning to creep into SE WI from northern IL, pivoting around the upper air low that will slide to our south on Tuesday. Inverted trough at the surface will pass over us and through IL and IN Tuesday as well.
Net result is long-duration snow event, kicking into high gear Tuesday afternoon when the wind turns more to the northeast. This will usher in colder air passing over the warmer lake water and crank up the lake-effect snow enhancement.
Worst weather conditions expected from 4 p.m. Tuesday through Midnight due to highest intensity snowfall combined with strong wind. Blowing/drifting and reduced visibility will create travel problems.

Winter Storm Warning
Issued by the National Weather Service at 7:09 PM CST on February 8, 2010
... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from midnight tonight
to 6 am CST Wednesday...
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from midnight tonight to
6 am CST Wednesday.
* Timing... snow will overspread southeast and east central
Wisconsin by late this evening or shortly after midnight. The snow will
then persist through Tuesday night.
* Snow accumulations will range from 10 to 14 inches by late
Tuesday night. The heaviest snow will fall Tuesday and Tuesday
night.
* Winds... east winds of 5 to 15 mph will turn to the north to
northeast on Tuesday and increasing to 15 to 30 mph... with gusts
to 35 mph possible for a time Tuesday night. Blowing and
drifting snow will become widespread Tuesday afternoon and
night. Near blizzard conditions are expected for a time near
Lake Michigan.
* Impacts... heavy snow accumulations and a relatively dry powdery
snow will make for hazardous travel later tonight and Tuesday
morning. Blustery north winds will cause blowing and drifting
snow Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night resulting in continued
treacherous travel conditions. The blowing snow may reduce the
visibility to less than one half mile in open areas.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected. Significant amounts of snow are
forecast... along with blowing and drifting that will make travel
hazardous. If you are traveling... keep an extra flashlight...
food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
